It has been a TRYING couple of months planning to bring Trina home.
1) Trina looks great and yet continues to pull back from progress. She barely wants to eat by mouth, so we have had to increase her tube feeding to almost 100% of her calories as she was losing weight and is already so tiny. And, before she had been able to take a couple steps with assistance many months ago … and she is now even more resistant to even standing being held. We had to be sure we had the doctors add a Hoyer Lift for home use so that we can use that to lift her into the shower, etc. – where we had hoped for it going the other direction with that peek of progress. We still have the faith to believe that love and prayer and continuing working with her we will again see improvement. The brain takes its own time to heal and there are many plateaus as we understand it now.
2) For us, this move is a huge endeavor. Getting Trina what she needs at home and getting everything approved by Medi-cal is an overwhelming process, and not a smooth one! There are constant walls that threaten her having all that she needs. We are not in the financial position to just get what she needs, so we are at the mercy of Medi-cal. They are are pulling back and move slowly. We had to ask the vendors (for wheelchair, hospital bed, etc.) to please release what she needs without being paid upfront and wait for approval which could take months. Thank God 2 companies – Everything Medical in Redding and Academy Medical in San Diego are helping us or we’d have to wait for months to get her home! And, even with the fact that Trina needs 24/7 care and cannot do anything for herself – those with the title of deciding how many hours will be approved may also take months to decide, so our fate is in the hands of just a couple of people! Very unsettling as a family. One more example: Trina is only approved for a very poor mattress. One like she has in the hospital is $3,000. One that may help her not get bed sores is $600. Even that one is not approved…we have to stay at the lowest grade, which puts her at risk. Please help us also continue to get donations so that we can upgrade this very important items over time!
SO – THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS. If anyone works with Medi-cal or CCT or with people in Trina’s condition – we welcome your input and advice. This is all so scary, especially when we so desire the best for her! And, we must stay healthy ourselves, mentally and physically to be the best caregivers, so please pray for that as well.
THANK YOU FOR CARING!!! Trina’s mom
