Another “stepping” stone, all on her own
We are so pleased to share with everyone that Katrina has made another miraculous stepping stone. The family took her out to practice walking this weekend. To our surprise, she was able to stand and take steps all on her own! Keep in mind that she is unable to speak or follow commands, but this…

A Walk in the Park
It was a beautiful day at Coronado park and the family decided to take Katrina out for a stroll. We want to get her out of her wheelchair everyday to strengthen her physical and mental muscles. As you can see in the video, Steve has to support some of her weight and direct her forward…

Physical Therapy Update
Katrina receives acupuncture and physical therapy three times a week. Despite Katrina’s progress, these therapies are exhausting for her, which in turn makes her too tired to eat. We are now trying to make sure she gets enough rest to keep it all in balance. The cognitive side of her brain is still fairly inactive.…

Trina walks with a little help from family
It all started when Steve decided to practice standing Trina up. Everyday, after her wheelchair stroll outside, Steve would stand her up to see how she would do. With minimal support she stood up straight and even moved her feet around. The nurses started to take notice of this and were very impressed with her…

Daily hope and Happy New Year!
Steve and I (mom) took Katrina out to the movies yesterday to see the Chronicles of Narnia (3-D). It doesn’t matter if she is able to comprehend the movie yet or not, it’s the stimulus that she needs. Getting her out of the hospital to spend time with family doing fun activities, has boosted her…

The first place we took her was to see Burlesque in theaters, which she responded to very well. Our goal is to get her out of the hospital as much as possible. Steve takes her out…

Happy 22nd Birthday Trina!
Katrina has shown great improvement over the last few months. She seems to be more aware of her surroundings and her body more expressive. We attribute this progress to the consistent acupuncture and an abundance of love and prayers. We are experimenting with the NIKKEN therapies (water, magnets, etc.) and a product called “Natural Cellular…

Eyes wide open, but still asleep
As you can see from this photo, Katrina’s eyes are still beautiful as ever. It’s hard to believe that despite her alert appearance, her brain is still sleeping. Friends and family keep asking us how Katrina is doing, but to be honest that is a hard question to answer. However, I will leave you with…

The “Awakened” Moment
Over the weekend Carly visited Trina from New York. When Carly leaned over her, she started crying. Trina looked up at her in shock and started crying herself. The intensity of that moment proved that Katrina knew it was her sister. Then she faded away again. It was clearly an awakened moment that we cherish.…

Outdoors is key
For the last week, we have taken Katrina outdoors in her wheelchair. Being outside seems to soothe her. The fresh air and excitement around her with outdoor stimulus is taking her to a more alert place. This is where we talk to her and interact with her to help stimulate her brain! We will continue…
