February 2013

IMG_0133We’ve had some great weather in February and that means a lot of walks with Trina around the River Trail. Thank goodness she has a custom wheelchair that has a bucket for her feet and allows her to ride comfortably for a long time. We tend to walk for about an hour to hour and a half (to sun dial bridge and back).

We also decided to finally start a non-profit, called IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE FOUNDATION, INC. (website is in the making now at: http://www.BlinkofanEyeFoundation.org. Trina’s sister KaCee is building us a website. We hope to help prevent anorexia where we can and assist families who are at home taking care of individuals over age 18 with brain damage. It is a big thing to take on, but we know it is worth trying to make a difference. We have learned so much in the last 2 1/2 years with Trina, it is prudent and the right thing to pass that onto others in need.

There are so many important items not covered by Medi-cal that we will continue to ask that anyone who can, please continue to come to this site and donate as you are able. Any donations here go into her Special Needs Trust. However, if you want a tax write off – as soon as the foundation site is up and running (and tax exemption status completed) – you can specifically donate to Trina or other families specifically where you can write the donation off. At any rate, our prayer is that you do not forget that Trina will always need help 🙂 Example: We have not been able to complete a handicap bathroom remodel so that it is easier and safer to do a shower. This, even with the help of a friend / contractor, will be close to $9,000.00. Current donations will go towards that goal first.

A recent blessing is that we added a bicycle trailer (still putting it together – so I will give an update later this week as to how it works) to enable us to go on bike rides WITH Trina. This will be awesome for the summer time – if this custom one fits her 🙂 We will send it back if in anyway it seems unsafe. We also hope to add a special needs swingset in the backyard in the next 6 months so that we can swing her with a custom seat. These are the types of ways we are trying to make life more fun and stimulating for her (and us). We want to show other families that life doesn’t have to be over when tragedy hits – you just have to get creative.

Thank you to those who check in regularly, pray and support her, us.

God Bless,
Trina’s fam

  1. Hi Katrina, I am Ann Young. I met you and your mom at the Brain Injury Walk in Yuba City. ( My son Damian was also in a wheel chair.) I have been thinking a lot about you since we met. I admired your eyes then andafter seeing you website, I still admire them. So pretty and full of life. I want to share my favorite scripture with you. It’Jeremiah 29:11. It says, “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to propsper not. harm you. Plans for a hope and a future. I love this scripture because no matter where I am in life, I know if I live for God,It’s His plan for me. And this is true for you too. The scriptures are messages for everyone. If we believe in Him, they are. words of encouragement in hard times. I don’t know your pain, only you know that, and God. But I do know whatever we go through, God is with us. I would love to come see. you ifthat’salright. I could bring Damian too. Ithink of you every day. God Blesss your day and know I care!! Love Ann

    1. Ann – What a nice note. I told Katrina all about it. We will be at the walk in Sacramento this weekend – hope to see you there too. Lets be sure to stay in touch, OK and hopefully we can help support one another – us with Damian, too – to make life better for our kids always with the hope of healing and miracles 🙂 Blessings to you and Damian. We do plan on visiting some time in the summer 🙂 Sandy
